What Keystone draws on 35 ft 8 in
The tagline is 'Rear Living Room, Oversized Bathroom, King Bed, Three Slides', and the feature list fills it in: a king bed of 70 by 80 inches with underbed storage, a full wardrobe with sliding mirror doors, a bathroom with solid surface counters, a large sink, a linen cabinet, and a large shower with glass door and skylight, a booth dinette with 30-inch drawers, a bench seat ottoman with storage, a rear living room with a 5,500 BTU fireplace, and full pass-through storage with LED lighting and power outlets. Two electric awnings and slide toppers are named as well.

The tradeoff is not the rear living room, it is the payload
Rear living behaves the same way here as on the 290RLS: the living room goes to the back and the three slides define the room. What changes is the arithmetic. A king bed, a bathroom Keystone calls oversized, and a linen cabinet on a body 2 ft longer than the 290RLS add 543 lb of dry weight, and Keystone's carrying capacity drops by the same 543 lb, to 1,790 lb. Water in the 75-gallon fresh tank takes a share of that figure before anyone packs, and whether the unit travels full is a choice the buyer makes, not a specification.
Within the plain subline the 316RLS sits in the middle of everything except capacity: 11 of 16 on dry weight, 11 of 16 on length, 13 of 16 on hitch weight, and last on carrying capacity. The other two rear-living plans in the subline, the 290RLS and the 355FBS, carry 2,333 lb and 2,098 lb; the 316RLS's 1,790 lb trails them by 543 lb and 308 lb. That gap is the whole shortlisting question for this plan, and the king bed and the bathroom are what the gap buys.
RVUSA's 2027 guide lists a 12,900 lb GVWR; Keystone's own page carries dry weight, hitch weight, and carrying capacity. GVWR minus dry weight comes to 1,790 lb, matching Keystone's carrying capacity exactly; the two sources agree by arithmetic, and this record treats the Keystone figure as the published one.
Four checks that belong to this drawing
- Weigh the truck you own, or the one you plan to buy, against a 2,120 lb published pin weight before you fall for the bathroom. On a plan with 1,790 lb of carrying capacity the pin figure rises as the trailer is loaded, and the truck's payload has to take it.
- Stand in the oversized bathroom with the door closed and open the linen cabinet and the vanity drawers. Keystone names the large sink, the linen cabinet, and the solid surface counter; see whether two people can be in there at once, since that is the reason to pick this plan over the 290RLS.
- Open the booth dinette's 30-inch drawers with the slides retracted. Keystone lists the drawers as a feature; they only help if the aisle in front of them stays usable in travel configuration.
- Retract all three slides and walk from the entry to the rear living room and back to the king bed. The 70 by 80 mattress and the sliding mirror wardrobe doors both need clearance to open with the bedroom closed up for travel.
The plans a 316RLS shopper is really choosing between
Chosen by what they change about rear living and about payload, not by nearest length.
Two feet shorter and 543 lb lighter, with the same three slides and the same sleeping capacity, and 60 lb less on the pin. Carrying capacity is 2,333 lb, 543 lb more than the 316RLS. Keystone gives it a 60 by 80 queen and names stackable washer and dryer prep in the tagline.

The 12,900 lb GVWR and the three-slide count come from RVUSA's 2027 spec guide, which is cited in the Source details panel. Keystone's height figure of 13 ft 4 in is published as the unit's height with the air conditioner included rather than listed apart.
