290RL: first of eight on length, dry weight, GVWR, and pin
Rear hide-a-bed, sink island, front king: the 290RL drawing
Forest River's 2027 drawing puts the living room at the rear. A hide-a-bed sofa faces forward under a run of overhead cabinets, a swivel-mounted TV and fireplace sits on an angled unit in the corner, and a Murphy pantry fills the space behind it. The kitchen runs along the opposite wall in a bump-out with overhead cabinets, a microwave, and the fridge, and a sink island stands in the middle of the floor. Across from it, the awning-side bump-out holds recliners and a table with chairs. Steps lead forward past a sliding door to a bath with a seated shower, a linen cabinet, and a medicine cabinet, and the front bedroom has the king bed in its own bump-out, a wardrobe, hamper and drawers, a dresser with a TV above, and washer and dryer prep.
The shortlist case is simple arithmetic. Every other Cedar Creek is at least 39 ft 7 in long and at least 14,004 lb dry. Against the 361RL, the 290RL gives up 5 ft and 1,750 lb yet keeps the same three slides and the same tanks, and its published cargo capacity is 1,220 lb higher. For a buyer whose truck payload or storage spot is the hard limit, this is the plan that starts lowest on both.
Forest River's 2027 290RL floor-plan drawing →One king bed and a sofa that opens: the 290RL's sleeping tradeoff
The drawing names one bedroom. The other bed it labels is the hide-a-bed sofa, which opens in the same rear room as the swivel TV, the fireplace, and the pantry, so a guest sleeps where the household sits in the evening. A second bedroom in this family means moving to the 380DB, which draws a second king bed at the rear, and that plan is 8 ft 10 in longer and 2,770 lb heavier.
The front of the trailer carries the bedroom and the washer and dryer prep. Appliances installed there add weight at the pin end, so the loaded pin figure will sit above the published 2,095 lb.
A 290RL walkthrough from the hide-a-bed forward
- Open the hide-a-bed sofa all the way with the swivel-mounted TV and fireplace turned to each of its positions, and see whether the angled unit and the open bed can share the rear corner.
- Close all three slides and walk from the steps back to the fridge and the Murphy pantry. The kitchen bump-out and the recliner bump-out face each other across the sink island, and this is the path you will use at a fuel stop.
- Count seats at the table beside the recliners. It is the only table on the drawing, so its chairs decide how many people eat inside.
- In the front bedroom, bring the king bed's bump-out in and check that the wardrobe, the hamper and drawers, and the washer and dryer prep still open.
Three Cedar Creeks to hold against the 290RL's 34 ft 7 in
Chosen by what each plan changes about the layout. Differences are arithmetic from the published figures.
Its drawing carries the 290RL's labels plus a closet by the steps. It is 5 ft longer, 1,750 lb heavier, and 530 lb heavier on the pin, with the same three slides and tanks, and 1,220 lb less cargo capacity at 2,621 lb. It still stops 5 in under a 40-foot pad.
Open record →If the kitchen should be at the rearCedar Creek 385RK7 ft 2 in longer, 2,525 lb heavier, 595 lb more on the pin, and one more slide. Gray capacity rises from 82 to 123 gal and black from 41 to 82 gal, while cargo capacity drops 620 lb to 3,221 lb, still 2 of 8 in the family.
Open record →If the living room belongs at the pin endCedar Creek 398FLMoves the living room to the front, around a sectional sofa, and the bedroom and bath to the rear. It costs 8 ft 6 in, 2,805 lb, and 575 lb of pin weight, adds two slides and 7 gal of fresh water, and carries 900 lb less cargo capacity.

Where the 290RL figures and room labels come from
Length, weights, GVWR, pin weight, cargo capacity, tanks, slides, and the 159 in exterior height come from Forest River's 2027 Cedar Creek 290RL page, last checked on 2026-08-15. The room layout is read from the labels on Forest River's 2027 290RL floor-plan drawing on 2026-09-26. The sleeping capacity in the table comes from RVUSA's 2027 spec guide. Forest River presents the dry weight and the cargo carrying capacity as estimated averages for a unit built to standard specification, so the weight label on the trailer you actually buy is the figure to plan around.
