The whole kitchen at the far end
Forest River's drawing for the 33CHEF runs the kitchen along the rear wall: overhead cabinets, microwave, and range across the back, a 16 cubic foot refrigerator and pantry in the rear corner, and a hi-top table with chairs beside it. The living room sits in the middle of the trailer, with theater seating in one slide, a tri-fold sofa in the slide opposite, a second tri-fold sofa, and an entertainment center with a fireplace facing them. The bath is mid-ship with a shower, toilet, and linen closet, and the king bed rides in the front slide with a dresser and wardrobe. Three slides, an 11-foot awning.
That arrangement is the reason to consider it. A cook who wants the counter run along the back wall and down one side, with the refrigerator and pantry within a step, gets that here, and the living room is not sharing a wall with the range.

What a rear kitchen does to the weight picture
Everything heavy in a kitchen, the refrigerator, the pantry, the range, and the overhead cabinets, sits behind the axles on this plan. That is consistent with the published pin weight of 1,885 lb being only 17.9% of dry weight, the second-lowest share of the seven Cardinals; only the 36FUN is lower. A lower pin share is easier on a truck's payload, but it also means less of the trailer's weight is pressing on the hitch, and the rear overhang is carrying the cabinetry instead. Neither of those is good or bad on its own. What the number tells a buyer is that the 33CHEF loads a truck differently from a front-kitchen or front-living plan of the same weight.
The other figure that stands out is cargo. Forest River publishes 3,327 lb of carrying capacity, the highest of any Cardinal and 827 lb more than the 32CHILL that sits one step below it in length. The same 3,327 lb is the gap between the 10,558 lb dry weight and the 13,885 lb GVWR, which is also the largest margin in the family. Forest River labels UVW and cargo capacity as estimated averages, so the certification label on the exact unit sets the real number, but as published this is the Cardinal with the most room for water, gear, and options before it reaches its rating.
It is also the only Cardinal besides the 32CHILL that fits a 40-foot pad, clearing it by 1 ft 9 in at 38 ft 3 in overall.
On the lot, with the slides in and out
- Walk from the entry steps to the refrigerator with both living-room slides retracted. The theater seating and the tri-fold sofa face each other across the aisle, and the fridge is at the far rear corner past both of them.
- Open the refrigerator and pantry doors with the slides closed. Both sit in the rear corner next to the hi-top table, and the table is the only dining surface on the plan.
- Stand at the range and look for where hot pans go. The counter run across the back wall is the working surface, and the hi-top table beside the refrigerator is the only other flat surface at that end.
- Ask for the cargo carrying capacity label on the unit itself. The published 3,327 lb is a family high point, and it is the figure most likely to move once options are installed.

Three ways to leave the 33CHEF
Each of these changes one thing the 33CHEF is built around. Figures are differences between the published records.
Moves the kitchen into the front cap and the bedroom to the rear. It is 4 ft 6 in longer and 565 lb heavier, sleeps the same six, keeps three slides, and gives up 370 lb of published cargo capacity. Pin weight rises by 195 lb, which is what putting the appliances over the hitch instead of behind the axles looks like in the figures.
Open record →Shorter, lighter, smaller tanksCardinal 32CHILLDrops 3 ft and 870 lb of dry weight, sleeps two fewer, and halves the gray tank from 76 to 38 gallons. The living room goes to the rear and the kitchen to the middle. Cargo capacity falls by 827 lb.
Open record →If the living room should be the showCardinal 36FLFront living with the bedroom at the back, 6 ft 2 in longer, 725 lb heavier, four slides instead of three, the same six sleepers, and 375 lb less published cargo. It runs past a 40-foot pad by 4 ft 5 in where the 33CHEF clears it.
