A bunk room on one slide: what the 285OPT drawing shows
At 34 ft 3 in and 8,578 lb dry, the 285OPT is 1 of 4 on both length and weight in the Arctic Wolf lineup, and its 1,570 lb hitch weight is the lightest too. It leaves 5 ft 9 in of a 40-foot site open. For a buyer whose limit is the truck's payload or the length of the campsite, those are the reasons it goes on the list first.
Forest River draws the bunk room across the rear: a 28 x 72 bunk with a dinette under it on one side, 32 x 72 double bunks on the other, and a TV stand and dresser against the rear wall. The single slide, opposite the entry, holds a tri-fold sofa and a U-shape dinette. The door-side wall carries a hidden pantry, a 12V refrigerator, and a microwave, facing an angled entertainment center with TV and fireplace. The bath with its shower sits at the step, and the front bedroom has a 60 x 80 queen between two wardrobes.
A second, smaller drawing of the rear room shows a queen bed, a wardrobe, and an overhead cabinet where the bunks would be. Forest River prints no label saying which build that is, so ask which rear room a given unit has before anything else.
Forest River's 2026 Arctic Wolf 285OPT page and drawing →Four 285OPT checks that come from the bunk room and the single slide
- Lie on the 28 x 72 bunk and the 32 x 72 double bunk. Both are drawn 72 inches long, so hold that length against the tallest person who will sleep there.
- Sit at the dinette under the upper bunk and check the headroom between the seat and the bunk above it.
- Bring the slide in and walk from the entry to the front step and back to the bunk room. The sofa and U-shape dinette ride in that one slide, so this is the aisle at every fuel stop.
- Open the outside kitchen and its fridge, drawn on the door side just behind the entry steps, and check that the kitchen door and the steps can both be out at once.
Where the 285OPT lands among four Arctic Wolfs
The tradeoff sits in that black tank. A bunk room puts more people on one toilet, and the 285OPT pairs it with 35 gal of black capacity beside a 70-gallon gray tank and an 81-gallon fresh tank. The gray tank is twice the black; that is arithmetic from the three published figures, not a measurement of how long any family can stay away from a sewer connection, but it is the number to hold against the kind of camping planned.
The 285OPT beside a loft plan and a king suite
4 ft longer, 1,336 lb heavier, and one more slide. It replaces the bunk room with a 60 x 80 loft bed and a 54 x 74 bed, adds a second toilet at the rear, and doubles the black tank to 70 gal. Its hitch weight is only 75 lb higher, and its cargo capacity is 76 lb lower at 1,931 lb.

285OPT sources: a 2026 drawing and two estimated averages
Length, weights, GVWR, tank sizes, exterior height, slide count, and cargo capacity come from Forest River's 2026 page for the 285OPT, which this site last checked on 2026-08-21. Forest River sells this line as the Cherokee Arctic Wolf. The room layout and bunk sizes were read from Forest River's 2026 drawing for the plan on 2026-09-26. Forest River marks both the dry weight (UVW) and the cargo carrying capacity as estimated averages for a standard build, so options on a real unit move both, and the unit's own label is the figure to tow by.
